The Icebox has been named as the 2010 recipient of the Better Business Bureau of Metro Atlanta Torch award for Community Service. On Thursday, May 13th, 2010, CEO and co-owner of The Icebox Jordy Gamson accepted the award before a crowd of nearly 300 business owners from around the city. Holly Petraeus, Director of BBB's Military Line, was the keynote speaker. Discussing the award with peers, Gamson remarked, "Being a good corporate citizen is who we are as a company--it's the right thing to do. Obviously, getting an award for it is always an added bonus."

Criteria for this award included: the company's participation with charities and community organizations, individual employees' outstanding participation with charities and community organizations, the company's and employees' reasons for valuing and prioritizing social responsibility, and contribution levels of money and in-kind goods given to charities and community organizations. Three judges independent of the BBB's staff and Board of Directors reviewed all entries for the BBB Torch Awards.

The branch of The Icebox that focuses on philanthropy and community service is called Common Threads. Common Threads ties together all the ways of serving on which the award focused, but Common Threads also "takes it up a notch" by helping The Icebox clients in their efforts to serve and give back.

One example of how Common Threads magnifies and multiplies the good works of The Icebox clients is The Icebox's work for Q100's Bert's Big Adventure (BBA), which sponsors trips to Disney World for families with young children who have chronic or terminal illnesses. For the second year in a row, The Icebox's creative team worked with BBA staff to design and print colorful t-shirts for the entire travel party. In addition, The Icebox produced backpacks, sweatshirts and bag tags for each child and arranged to have the entire package drop shipped to each family and staff member before the big travel day arrived. The apparel and gear provided by The Icebox helped the family members and staff to recognize their travel mates while also raising public awareness of what this particular charitable enterprise is all about.

Since its inception a few years ago, The Icebox's Common Threads division has been represented in hundreds of charitable and community events. The Icebox provided sponsorship, promotional products and apparel, design recommendations, raffle prizes, tattoos for kids, games, supplies, pre-party hosting, and the fun, upbeat presence of their popular penguin mascot, Ping. In 2009, the Common Threads division raised over $70,000 for charitable causes. The magnitude of service to these causes and the winning of the award reflect the company's philosophy that one must first give in order to receive, as well as the idea held by its owners and employees that a circle of giving creates a win all around -- for The Icebox and Common Threads, for our clients, for our customers clients', and for the community as a whole. The Icebox helps companies who are helping others to increase their effectiveness by amplifying and magnifying their work through our unique program of philanthropic co-branding.

The Icebox is a full-service, one-stop shop for branded apparel and promotional products. Their collaborative approach provides customers with a variety of branding solutions. Their capabilities include creative services, custom sourcing, garment and product decoration, fulfillment programs, and retail solutions.

Priding themselves as a friend to all, The Icebox works with numerous community and non-profit organizations through its Common Threads division. For more information, visit www.iceboxonline.com.
