Writers, designers and creative professionals who live in or near New York City now have their very own spot in the Big Apple - without having to pay a penny in Manhattan rent. In the heart of Manhattan's Chelsea neighborhood, the Wix Lounge offers a fully-equipped workspace for creative professionals to meet with clients, get work done or share ideas over a free cup of coffee. Free Wi-Fi completes the package. Oh and did we mention the choice downtown location? The Wix Lounge is located on the 2nd floor of 10 West 18th street. You may wonder "How is this really possible?" Welcome to Wix. The company was born in 2006 and has been providing online users with free website solutions ever since. With a powerful drag & drop interface and a ton of free web design, users can craft sites from scratch or customize a free web template with items from Wix' free library like images, buttons, widgets. Wix earns its money through premium users who upgrade to gain premium website features. There are no plans to monetize the Lounge's space or offerings. Creative freedom, collaboration and innovation are Wix values, and the Lounge is the perfect physical embodiment of Wix' commitment to the "freemium" business model - and Wix philosophy. Director of the Wix Lounge, Victoria Monsul, offered a warm welcome to those in attendance at the Wix Lounge Reveal Party last week: "This is something [we] designed with you guys in mind...Come here, work, utilize the space to meet clients, drink coffee on the house, network...This is completely for you." Lounge guests are encouraged to speak up and voice their needs and preferences. Those in attendance at last week's gala voted on the hours which they'd like to have the Wix Lounge open. (10am - 8pm was the winning time slot) Last week's launch party witnessed a huge turnout, and a lively atmosphere included Wix giveaways, free drinks and music. Guests lined up for pictures to be taken with quirky signs and props in classic Wix-style. Giveaways included Apple shuffles given to raffle winners. And of course, demonstrations of the website builder were provided. A whole slew of web-industry events will be held at the Wix Lounge, ranging from portfolio reviews to tutorials on how to make a website, to networking events. "We have a very liberal program here...if you have a suggestion, I'll do my best to address it and incorporate it into the Lounge," says Monsul.
