Atlanta, Georgia -- For the past 72 years, April visitors to Atlanta have enjoyed the beautiful spring weather and blooming flowers, but one of the most popular attractions has been the annual Atlanta Dogwood Festival. A weekend (Friday - Saturday) filled with art, live music, food and family fun, the Dogwood Festival takes place April 17-19 in Piedmont Park in Midtown.

HOMECOMING The 73rd Annual Atlanta Dogwood Festival returns home to Piedmont Park to host the city's best-loved springtime tradition. Taking place April 17, 18 and 19, 2009, the weekend of fine art, music, and food, offers the ideal way for families and friends to spend time in the beautiful Atlanta spring weather. www.dogwood.org

ARTS The 2009 Atlanta Dogwood Festival will feature exciting additions to the popular Artist Market, which is poised to be the largest in the festival's history. This year a special section will feature Georgia artists and highlight a variety of local talent. The ZonePerfect Art Bar, a refreshment space specializing in adult cocktails will return for its second year.

The High School Art Exhibit, a community-oriented special feature of the Dogwood Festival, presents the best in works created by high school students. For 2009, the theme focuses on recycled materials as an artistic medium. This important exhibition is specially designed to encourage and support art programs in local area high schools.

DIVERSIONS Each year, the Atlanta Dogwood Festival offers musical entertainment throughout the weekend. The 2009 festival will include performers from a variety of musical genres with a new stage that will have an emphasis on performances from a variety of cultures. This year also includes the return of the dogs with the Amazing Animal AthletesT Dog Show presented by WOOF! Sports USA.

PARTNERS Throughout the weekend, the Dogwood Festival will be joined by a variety of Atlanta's visual and performing arts organizations to offer special activities like a Friday night improv show, a stand-up comedy performance and a gospel show. Some of these festival partners include the National Black Arts Festival and Dad's Garage Theatre Company.

FRIENDS The "Friends of Dogwood Pavilion" a ticketed event that became part of the Dogwood Festival in 2008, will offer a special area on Saturday and Sunday that will feature some of the neighborhood's favorite restaurants combined with specialty beverages. Tickets to Friends of Dogwood can be purchased in advance at www.dogwood.org or at the door.

KIDS Designed just for the younger festival visitors, the Kid's Village has become a Dogwood favorite for families. This interactive zone comes complete with hands-on art projects, special kid-friendly displays and hours of entertainment from Young Audiences.

ENTRANCE Just as it has been for the past 72 years, the 73rd Annual Atlanta Dogwood Festival is free!

FUNDRAISING As a registered 501-C3, the Atlanta Dogwood Festival thanks Friends of Dogwood and our sponsors who help keep this great event free and open to the public. The festival also provides festival exposure to many other non-profit organizations annually at the Community Corner, an area that will be expanded in 2009.
