Hardie Davis added another feather to his cap by heading to Atlanta and taking charge as the new District 22 state senator.

He was administered the oath of office by state Court judge David Watkins, after having defeated his rival, former Solicitor General Harold V. Jones, in a special election held last week. The vacancy had been created after the previous District 22 state senator, Ed Tarver was nominated by President Barrack Obama as the U.S. attorney for the District of Georgia.

Though the swearing-in ceremony was tipped to take at least two weeks, it was held much earlier owing to the consistent efforts put in by the Senate, the office of the Secretary of state and the Richmond County board of elections. After being sworn in, in a crowded courtroom, Davis expressed his gratitude to all those who supported him throughout his campaign. He affirmed his commitment towards the progression and development of community as a whole. 'Together we can', he stated 'And we did!'

His wife Evett and son Benjamin stood by his side while he took the oath of office. Present amongst the spectators was Ed Tarver, the former Senator and a few other prominent politicians and officials.
