As part of its goal to increase personal, social and environmental well-being, Project NatureConnect at the Institute of Global Education (IGE) is offering participatory activities to the public in cooperation with the U.S. National Park Service and UNEP World Environment Day. The activities offer sustainable fulfillments that are enjoyed by those who value nature and traditional music and dance. The World Environment Day Activityt helps people sense that in nature, from atoms to the solar system and beyond, everything is connected to its immediate environment by natural attractions. These restorative energies unify things, including humanity and nature, in peaceful balance and beauty. Doing the activity creates moments that let Earth teach us how it and we are nature's flow of life manifesting itself as us. The Pig War Contra Dance Music Activity at San Juan Island National Historical Park enables visitors and residents to listen or dance to live traditional old time community dance music. Park historian, Michael Vouri, notes that in the late 19th century Islanders would dance at every opportunity, especially on holiday evenings and evenings following funerals. Community dancing, being a supportive and lively experience. helps alleviate stress as dancers feel more alive and confident. The pioneering mission of Project NatureConnect (PNC) at the Institute of Global Education is to help our thinking tap into the renewing intelligence and love of nature's ways, in and around us. The online program's subsidized, UNESCO approved, training courses and degrees enable us to make conscious sensory contact with the life-nurturing energy of the eons that flows through natural areas, backyard or backcountry. It teaches us how to strengthen this purifying and healing power in ourselves and others while visiting a natural area. It is well known that a good experience in nature rewardingly uplifts our spirit. It unites our thoughts and feelings with all members of the natural world. A nature connection participant wrote, "The now moment was clear to me. I felt the air, the warmth of the sun, and the new growth of flowers. I was in nature's moment. Nature's wisdom helped me sense that each moment has value and we are living in nature that is ever changing. I realized to savor the moment for what it is, not for what I want it to be or what it could be." Further information: ecopsych.com Add this page to your favorite Social Bookmarking websites |
