With a total of 56 points in their kitty, they have dropped even behind Lightning and are currently tied at the 10th position with the Canadiens in the standings declared by Eastern Conference. The rivals took an early lead by scoring two goals in the first period. Ondrej Pavelec, Thrashers goaltender, was able to manage 22 saves in the game. Despite being one of his best performances till date, this could not secure a victory for the team. "It is disappointing because it was a huge game for us tonight", he said.

Just as the time expired, Ilya Kovlachuk, the Thrashers captain, banged his stick on the net and avoided speaking to the media. Sources say that soon after, he left the arena. He has merely scored a single goal in the previous six games.

However, it was completely the day of Antero Niittymaki. Not only did he make 26 saves throughout the game but he also progressed to a 16-0-0 lifetime. It is notable that he has won both the games against Thrashers in this season.
