The 24 years old Jair was a little concerned after he was told about the examination. He was advised a week's rest and treatment for the shoulder after the MRI on Wednesday. The Braves' physician Dr. Duralde said that the discomfort in the shoulder was due to an anterior inflammation and he expected to start throwing in a week's time. Jurrjens registered the NL's third best ERA 2.60 and went 14-10 in 2009 in Atlanta. It will be early to determine whether Jurrjens will have sufficient time to prepare for his first start of the Grapefruit League season. But even if he's not able to do so, he will still have time to gather the innings necessary to be ready for the start of the regular season. The Braves believe that the discomfort began last week after Jair made an awkward throw to the second base while he was performing pitcher-fielding drills with the professional baseball players from his native Curacao. "He might be a little behind the guys during the early days of camp, but he'll quickly make that time up," Braves general manager Frank Wren said. |
