The Braves' 2-1 loss in the second game of three in Cincinnati seemed to reinforce the idea that they have a tendency to choke when the pressure is on. In the last six games, they've only managed 15 runs. So what happened to the team that had boasted a 39-17 record not that long ago, but has now lost 10 of the last 17 games? You can't lay it at the feet of Tommy Hanson, who pitched 7 1/3 strong innings, or Alex Gonzalez, who scored the only run with his first homer as a Brave. All told, the Braves managed to get only four hits. Perhaps they'll turn things around today, when they face the fourth-place New York Mets. Braves manager Bobby Cox, in a profound understatement, pretty well summed up what was required when he said, "We need to pick it up a little bit with our hitting." A little bit would be good; a lot would be even better. Add this page to your favorite Social Bookmarking websites |
