Braves fall to Astros 10-4, Rookie Minor confident despite loss

Then came the seventh inning, and it all just fell apart. Figuring that six innings were enough for a first-timer, Minor was replaced by reliever Peter Moylan, who proceeded to gave up four hits and two walks. The Braves could have overcome that, but it was going to get worse, and quick. The Astros racked up six runs in the seventh, thanks in great part to some glaring Braves defensive errors. The most spectacular was when Astros third baseman Chris Johnson hit a bases-loaded single to left field. Eric Hinske threw home to catcher McCann, who then shot it in the general direction of third base to nail the runner. Unfortunately, McCann's power trumped his accuracy, and his throw ended up closer to the left field wall than to third base, allowing Johnson to circle the bases, bringing in four runs. Third baseman Chipper Jones said, "I thought we played great baseball up to that point, but then the roof kind of fell in on us."

The Braves have two more chances in this series against the Astros, who have a surprising (for the Astros, anyway) 13 of 18 record this season at Minute Maid Park. Braves supporters can only hope that Minor's memorable first game in the majors doesn't rattle him too badly. The Braves really do need to repay the Astros' favor. The next game in the series is held today in Houston, starting at 9:05 PM Atlanta time, and the final game - again at Minute Maid - is tomorrow at 3:05PM Eastern time.
