On Thursday 31 January 2010 James Harper III, Jerry Chapman and Jeffrey Pombert have been indicted for attempting to filch $3 million from Gun Maker Glock's U.S. office near Atlanta. James Harper III is a federal prosecutor who was hired by the gun Manufacturer Glock for the investigation of a scam within the company. According to the indictment the three men were charged with several counts of stealing money in Atlanta. They conspired to transfer around $3 million from the North American subsidiary of Glock Inc. based in Smyrna, 15 miles northwest of Atlanta, another Glock company Consult invest Inc., and Gaston Glock, founder of Austrian-based gun maker, Glock GmbH. The prosecutors believe that in May 2000 Harper was hired as the supervisor of an investigating team in Atlanta to look into an alleged unlawful activity by a previous Glock associate of high rank. The other two men were also the part of that investigating team. They directly deposited money into their personal bank accounts through the companies they had created. It is believed that Harper was fired in May 2003, but he insists that he resigned. Glock Inc. has refused to comment on this. Pombert and Harper have been released on bail whereas Chapman remains in jail on an $110,200 bond. The first court appearance of the trio will be on February 16.
