Soccer mom hits the mean streets (and the ‘burbs) PDF Print E-mail

It was bad enough when you had to worry about rough-looking thugs wandering around in your neighborhood (your next-door neighbor's dropout son notwithstanding). Nowadays, it seems you have to be suspicious of everybody; even the June Cleaver types are turning to crime.

Atlanta police report that a different type of burglar has been hitting houses in the area, one who doesn't fit the image most of us have. Rather than a man draped in dark clothing and a ski mask, this burglar is a woman, and a stylishly dressed one, at that. One can imagine the surprise Flowery Branch homeowner Kevin Olson - who installs security cameras for a living - got on July 16 when he reviewed the tapes from his eight security cameras after discovering that his home had been hit, only to find that the perpetrator was a soccer mom. Olson's security cameras captured images of the "Leave It To Beaver" burglar leaving the scene in gold or beige Toyota.

Police say the woman has stolen not only the expected jewelry, but guns and assorted other items, as well. So if you happen to see someone who looks like she should be home baking cookies wandering slowly through your neighborhood, she might just be pursuing her own personal "stimulus program."
