Atlanta, GA - Georgia Students for Public Higher Education (GSPHE) and Young Democrats of Georgia (YDG), the student groups responsible for Monday's rally to save Georgia's public higher education at the State Capitol, will be holding an open-door meeting on Thursday, March 18, 2010 with Democratic Leadership to discuss the issue further.

"We feel that transparent, open-door discussions with Georgia's political leadership is what is needed right now," says YDG Chief of Staff Steve Golden.  "While others are meeting behind closed doors, we want to ensure that the voices of every student in Georgia are heard."

GSPHE and YDG feel that after an invigorating and successful rally, the next logical step is to hold meetings with prominent leaders from both political parties, to discuss ways in which alternative solutions can be reached, as opposed to sweeping and intensely damaging cuts to the University System of Georgia.

"We were honored to have been invited by the Democratic leadership to meet with them on Thursday concerning this issue that we all are so passionate about.  I hope that this is only the first in a series of meetings with both Democrats and Republicans in which Georgia Students for Public Higher Education can participate," said GSPHE's Will Avery.  "GSPHE is an open and transparent organization that truly has the best interest of Georgia's students in mind."

All are invited to attend this meeting between Democratic leaders, GSPHE, and YDG.  It will take place at 9:45 am in Capitol Room 230.  Interview opportunities will be available following the meeting.
